As far as Rosaria was concerned, she and Adelaide spent just the right amount of time together, which was mainly at family meals and public appearances of the royal family. Yet the Queen of Etrias was most insistent that her first daughter should make an effort to spending more quality time with her youngest child. The Queen even went as far as to threaten Rosaria with pulling the commission for her new wardrobe, which had made Roza blood boil. In the end, Rosaria grudgingly conceded to her dear mother’s wishes. Gracefully, Rosaria, closely followed by her retinue of ladies, made their way down the hallways of the royal wing towards the apartments of the second Princess of Etrias. For this particular visit, she was not dressed in one of her usual extravagant gowns, nor was she adorned in precious jewels and lustrous metals. Instead she chose to wear one of her more casual hunting outfits. A high collar of silver attached to a bodice of vivid purple enveloped her neck. High black leather boots were pulled over a pair of soft gray riding breeches, while one of her ladies held onto her slate gray gloves. Her slender body was swathed in a long, belled-sleeved riding coat of pale lavender that was cinched at the waist by a silver belt. Her dark hair was left long and loose, with a few braids here and there. As far as the princess knew, horseback riding was the only thing that she and her little sister had in common. So her plan was to invite Adelaide on a leisurely ride around the grounds that surrounded the castle. Since her sister was a timid little thing, Roza did not think that she could persuade to travel to far from the castle. Like her mother insisted, it would be just the two of them. Rosaria was absolutely forbidden to invite her friends at court to tag along. Being the only company one another had would quite literally force them to find entertainment in each other. Soon Rosaria found herself at her destination. Like she owned the place, the princess entered her sister’s chambers, not caring that she was invading her privacy. Like sheep, her ladies in waiting followed her with little choice, giving one another caution glances. Condescendingly, the princess flashed her sister’s chamberlain an impatient look. Finding his tongue, the chamberlain bellowed, “Her Royal Highness, Rosaria de Valore, Princess of Etrias.” Rosaria smiled peacefully, enjoying the compellation of her name, title, and style all in one announcement. It reminded her of the sheer authority that went along with possessing such a title. It was purely music to her ears. “Dearest sister,” said Roza, her voice laced with sweet, sororal endearment and affection. A gentle smile graced her lips while a kind light glistened in her dark eyes. “A grievous wrong has been brought to my attention by our most beloved mother that I feel I must remedy immediately for fear that I may lose your love.” Her poetic words were filled with distraught. “It has become clear to me that we are not as close as sisters should be, a fact which is partly due to my…” She could not insult herself. “… Nature. Yet, I pray you will forgive me and that we may start anew. I have planned a ride for just the two of us, and I do so hope you will accept the invitation.” ( outfit ) |
