Her Royal Highness was in a bit of a mood this late morning. Her lady-in-waiting, Annalise, had been late in waking the princess from her slumber this fine morning. Well actually Annalise had woken the princess at the same hour she did every morning, however the poor girl had not been aware that Rosaria wanted to ride with her cousin, Lady Giulietta, before appearing at court. Of course the Princess of Etrias claimed that she told the girl yesterday, and no one had the courage to contradict her. With Lady Annalise promptly dismissed from her service, the Lady Bianca was now following Rosaria like a shadow, brushing the princess’s dark, curled tresses. With her lips pursed, the princess neared her drawing room fully expecting to have to wait for her morning meal. All of her servants seemed to be a tad bit slow and unprepared today. Her gowns were still in the closet. Her jewels were still in their cases. Her shoes had yet to be retrieved from the royal cobbler. Why was no one ready today? “My lady.” A meek voice called before Rosaria entered her drawing room. The princess halted and turned to face the one that spoke, a mousy young servant girl. She didn’t address the girl. She merely gazed down on her as if she was wasting her very valuable time. When the young servant got the hint to continue, she stated, “My lady, your breakfast is on your dressing room, and your gowns have been ready as well.” “Hm.” The sound was crisp and short as the princess was generally pleased by the maid’s news. With no indication or sign of gratitude, Rosaria moved to her very spacious and richly furnished boudoir. As she took a seat at her ivory vanity, the princess inspected the collection of gown that her maids had placed on dress forms. There was a beautiful powder blue one with ruched Juliet sleeves. The lovely blue satin was embroidered with gold thread in intricate patterns and designs. Oh Rosaria knew she would look amazing in it with the low square neckline displaying her exotic olive tone flesh. Yet, the princess waved it away. ‘I can do better…’The second one was not one of Rosalie’s favorite. It was a bright yellow gown with a forepart of the palest tint of green. The trumpet sleeves were rather pretty, but the gown as a whole was absolutely atrocious. ‘Oh Dear God! I should have burned that dress as soon as I pulled it out of the box!’The next one was a bit better than the former… at least it wasn’t yellow. It was a deep orange, only a shade lighter than copper. It would be rather flattering with its double belled sleeves and dark red forepart that was patterned with vines. Rosa hemmed and hawed, feeling that there was a better choice in her wardrobe. Of course the best is always saved for last. The Princess of Etrias grinned with delight when her dark eyes fell upon the radiant gown. The garment was constructed of beautiful violet silk brocade with long, billowing trumpet sleeves that rolled back over her forearm to reveal the lustrous gold hanging sleeve inside. The forepart of the skirt was intricately lovely as well with golden rose window-like designs weaving across vivid magenta satin. Rosaria knew that she would look absolutely resplendent in this gown. “That one. The violet gown.” She said turning to face the large oval mirror. As her ladies removed the gown from the dress form, Rosaria’s hairdresser piled part of the princess’s dark hair into a large bun at the back of her head. The rest of her locks were left to cascaded down in soft curls. Rosaria examined the stylist’s work in the mirror with a scrutinizing eye. Then with a pleased smile, she commended the minimalistic hairstyle, stating that it was lovely. The hairdresser thanked the princess as the royal picked up a vial of rosewater and daintily dabbed the fragrance on her smooth skin. As the Princess of Etrias rose from her seat, her maid set a pair of violet high-heeled shoes stitched with gold thread on the floor before her. Carefully, Rosaria slipped the shoes onto her dainty feet while her ladies-in-waiting prepared the forepart of their lady’s gown. As soon as Rosa raised her arms above her head, the maids lowered the magenta skirt over the princess’s head and fastened it to her tiny waist. Next came the gown. The ladies-in-waiting were extremely careful not to damage Rosa’s hair as they guided the brocade vestment over her body. After Bianca situated the garment perfectly on Rosaria’s figure, she laced the back of the gown together tightly, making sure that there would be no malfunctions. While the princess was flaring out her skirts, her Bianca brought over her jewelry box. Then like the picky woman she was, the princess chose a pendant of red beryl that was strung on a double strand of while pearls and a matching pair of earring. Then a gold tiara topped with pearls was nestled on the crown of her head. Taking on last glance in her mirror, the princess giggled with the slightest trace of cunning laced in her joy. “Perfect,” stated the Princess of Etrias obviously pleased with herself. As she put on her angel face, humble and demure, Rosaria made her way to the door, her skirts rustling as she moved. She looked like the picturesque woman; beauty and modesty wrapped into one petite package. However if one looked closely enough, they would have caught the devilish gleam in her dark eyes as she sauntered through the halls of the palace ready to take the court my storm.

I am a QUESTION to the WORLD, not AN answer TO BE heard or a moment that’s held in your arms It was a beautiful morning, in fact so beautiful that it had indulged Giulietta to wake up earlier than usual just so she could enjoy it before she gent horseback riding with her dear cousin, the Princess Rosa. The maids entered her room in order to wake her, yet they found her sitting by the balcony on her nightgown and alight cloak staring at the beauty that surrounded the kingdom. One of the maids hurried toward her and encouraged her to enter back into the chamber with the excuse that she could catch a cold. Giulietta smiled at her for a moment before she made her way back to her rooms. The maids were already working on her bedclothes, cleaning the room and ensuring she had a nice warm bath while they chose her wardrobe for the day. Usually they had a good selection of dresses that Giulietta herself chose, befitting a cousin of the royal family, usually she had Rosa help her decide whenever the dresses were presented to her, she knew the Princess had a good sense of fashion.
She relaxed in the bath for a while, giving the maids enough time to have her room spick and span and also have her clothes and attire ready. This morning she set for a beautiful moon-blue gown, which had truly short sleeves that revealed her slender shoulders and arms and only joined by the wrists. It had golden designs on the edges and exalted her emerald eyes. She had a gold belt where her twin swords rested, she was determined never to leave her room without them, and the maids could not convince her otherwise…no matter how hard they tried. And they tried indeed.
Her long light brown hair was carefully combed and set loose, it graciously fell behind her shoulders and delicately waved as she walked toward the door, where the ladies waited to place the remaining touches to increase her beauty and noble blood. Some jewels that only made her eyes look even more mysterious, like the stars at night, with many hidden mysteries. She closed the door behind her and decided to wait for the Princess at the stables, for no other reason but, she could ensure the horses were ready for when Rosa arrived and also, due to the fact that Rosa would tend to use much time in getting ready, it was simply her nature, Giulietta never judged her cousin for her behaviour or personality, after all, she was one of the few people who treated her like family, like an elder sister, she would have certainly been lost long ago, had she not come to the castle to live with her mother’s family.
As she walked down a great hall she stopped by a great mirror, to admire the dress she was wearing for the first time, one Rosa had chosen for her, there was no doubt she had good taste. She smiled and caressed the golden edges of the sleeves, despite some persons taking her for a vane girl, Giulietta saw way beyond that, she was a truly charming girl, and an adorable sibling, however, those things were only known by the closest persons anyone could have, yet she was glad she knew Rosa, she felt lucky for such, because that allowed them to have a special friendship, one that would last no matter what.
She arrived to the stables and found no one was there yet, if Rosa found things that way she would certainly be furious. She called out and one of the stablemen approached her and stated that they had a busy day ahead of them and so they were slightly delayed with the request. Giulietta nodded, however, she ensured the man knew time was of the essence, surely they would not like to displease the Princess with such carelessness, after all she had things to do afterward, more important than riding with her cousin.
The man nodded and promised to have everything ready before Rosa arrived, Giulietta thought otherwise and chuckled at the thought of Rosa yelling at that man for his imprudence, however, she knew that the Princess would be upset if Giulietta tried to ready the horses for the both of them, she would take it for a less ‘princess-like’ jobs, in fact she would call Giulietta off for doing something below her status. She sat by a bench and played around with a volet flower she had found on her way to the stables. If “forgetting” a wake-up call resulted in dismissal, no one in the princess’s household wanted to know what contradicting her Royal Highness brought about. Rosaria heaved a tense sigh when Lady Villefort’s word reached her. The foolishness of her ladies never ceased to amaze her. Sometimes it just came to a point where Roza mused whether or not she should humor them with an answer. This was one of those times. For the moment, the princess continued to glide down a vacant corridor, the hem of her magnificent robes gracefully trailing behind her, with five of her ladies following behind her in tow. When she finally decided to indulge her lady-in-waiting with an answer, Rosaria replied coolly, lacing her word with a threat, “Lady Villefort, I do not know why I have to remind you that I am riding with me cousin this morning. As one of my ladies, you should commit my itinerary to memory. If it is such a laborious task for you, I could recommend your services elsewhere.”“My apologies, your Royal Highness, for my error.” Lady Renata stated humbly and yet fearful at the same time. “I thought your Highness was rescheduling your ride.” “Of course not. Why would we do that?” replied the princess curtly as she turned down the hallway that led to the stables. As Princess Rosaria entered the royal stables, she noticed her cousin, Giulietta, sitting patiently on a bench as she waited for her. Bless her dear cousin for waiting for her and without complaint. Of course the princess expected everyone to wait for her arrival no matter how long. However, Roza tended to separate Giulietta from the rest of the court and crowd that obliged the princess to keep up with appearances. The noblewoman was her beloved kin and was to be held in higher esteem than the other company. “Good morning, my dearest Giullietta,” greeted the Princess of Etrias with a genial honeyed tone coupled with a warm smile. Rosaria lowered herself to lightly kiss her cousin on both cheeks. Rising, she continued, “I do apologize for my tardiness. It is so hard to find good help these days.” Her gaze drifted slowly to her ladies with a glint on disapproval shining in her obsidian eyes. Turning her attention to the grooms, she inquired with a regal, authoritative voice, “Are our horses tack and readied?”The head groom bowed to the princess and replied, “Or course, you Highness. We have just finished tacking the horses.” Rosaria gave the man a critical glance and remarked, “The horses should have been readied long before I arrived. You people had plenty of time to prepare.”“Of course, your Highness.” The man said, taking the princess’s criticism in stride. “Well, bring me my horse.” Rosaria commanded impatiently. As the groom went to fetch the equines, she added, “I shouldn’t need to tell you how to do your job.”Within moments the horses were brought to the ladies. Rosaria’s steed was a bay warmblood that she had named Helios. He was a magnificent stallion that stood at nearly seventeen hands and looked like royalty, much like his mistress, in his black leather saddle and reins. His gleaming coat shone like bronze, and his mane and tail were as black as raven’s feathers. Helios’s temper matched his fiery name; the horse only behaved for his rider. Practically ignoring his handler, the stallion tried to trot away from the groom in order to reach the princess faster. “Hello, my love,” whispered Roza, sweetly to her spirited stallion. The groom brought a stool over to the princess and placed it below her stirrup. Without hesitation, Rosaria took hold of her horse’s reins and stepped up onto the stool. Swiftly and gracefully, the Princess of Etrias placed her foot in the stirrup and mounted her horse sidesaddle. It was an uncomfortable position, but she did not want to ruin her gown by riding astride. When she was ready, Rosaria turned to her riding partner and asked, “Are you ready, Giulietta?”

I am a QUESTION to the WORLD, not AN answer TO BE heard or a moment that’s held in your arms Even though Giulietta was outside in the stables, she could still hear the havoc in the castle halls. She could tell her cousin was as upset as she had suspected her to be. In fact she giggled somewhat at the whole situation, if the servitude tended to her needs and commands she would be all smiles and charm, surely they brought this upon themselves, however, they loved complaining and now everyone thought her dear cousin a meek and spoiled girl. Oh but she was so much more than that! She was a true joy, and she owed her so much already, she would have probably been lost had it not been for her. Her eyes turned to look at the men as they finished to ready the horses and she silently sighed closing her eyes for a brief moment, at least they would relieve Rosa from an unnecessary annoyance.
“Good morning, my dearest Giullietta.. I do apologize for my tardiness. It is so hard to find good help these days.”
The moment she turned to look at approaching steps she smiled, it was the one person she had been waiting for. She could not hide her joy the moment her cousin embraced her and kissed her cheeks, which she did in return. She smiled at her words and said, “Do not worry, I never mind waiting, especially when that means I will get to spend some time with you.” It was astounding how close they became over the years, few would expect persons with such different personalities to click, but they did, and now they were the best of friends, like siblings even. “I hope you had a good night’s rest. I confess I got up earlier and I enjoyed the sunrise.” She laughed silently, usually her mother disapproved of her doing things such as those, but sometimes she could not help it. She wanted to be out there, to be part of such beauty.
“Are our horses tack and readied?”
“Or course, you Highness. We have just finished tacking the horses.”
“The horses should have been readied long before I arrived. You people had plenty of time to prepare.”
“Of course, your Highness.”
“Well, bring me my horse… I shouldn’t need to tell you how to do your job.”
Giulietta simply watched the usual scene, people simply did not move around and did as expected of them, they feared the Princess’ wrath and it blinded them for their duties. She sighed, perhaps her cousin needed a bit more patience, but would that help if people still did not do as requested? Well, never mind, the horses were soon brought forth and she smiled when she noticed her beautiful black Friesian approach. She caressed its nose and then whispered some words of affection before she got on the saddle and sorted the reins.
“Are you ready, Giulietta?”
She smiled and turned to look at Rosa, “Lead on.” She giggled in anticipation; oh they always had fun, even when their parents sometimes criticized their lack of manners when playing around in the wilderness, but who could truly judge them for having fun? They were young and high-spirited, surely that was no crime!
