They were well organized and he knew that if they followed the main path and then cut through the meadows to the right they would be in their destination before dusk. He was so glad they had managed to overcome this situation that his senses blocked for a moment. It seemed strange to him that a band of bandits would simply leave and not come back with more men. And if Siegfried’s suspicions were correct, mayhap it was the rebels behind all this so surely they would not stop until they had the very last grain in the wagons. He raised an eyebrow and rekindled the trip up to this bridge. He turned his horse around and stared at the path they had been following. There had been no casualties; surely no one had followed them since his aid arrived. He ran a hand through his hair in confusion. Was he missing a detail? Had something gone amiss? Surely if there had been something going on Sain would have reacted, he was a man with keen senses. No, their problems had ceased then, but that did not mean they might not be overwhelmed once again.
Siegfried tried to pick anything strange from the natural landscape, however, the water was at peace and it flowed softly like a morning melody played with a harp, and the birds did not cease to delight them with their chirping and singing, he even spotted some red squirrels about and other creatures of the wilderness. If so happened, why was he somewhat anxious? He dreaded something was about to happen that would force them to take desperate measures. If that were the case it would be best to know the soil in which he stood. He looked around and saw some small crevices down the left, if anything happened the caravans could be hidden there, he was certain that the bandits would not go looking there. They would expect the caravan to be out in the open. He was relieved having noticed that refugee for now.
"We do what feel is right, despite what others think of us. If it is in our hearts, and whether or not we are of a station to make a major change. We do it out of the purest compassion we have for what we do, whether it be for the people or any other thing one might live for. Sadly more often than not, it is greed, glory, power, and lust that drive many. It is sad...but we push forward despite those of that like… do what you believe is true, and your people shall love you for it. You may not be a knight held at the highest esteem of the king, but my opinion I’d rather be the champion knight of the people. Do you not agree?"
Siegfried smirked at Sain’s words and nodded, “We clearly share ideas Sain, might be one of the reasons some member of my family do not warm up to me, but I do not care. I must do what I deem right.” He ran a hand on one of his saddle bags, while saying, “Sain, I usually play my harp for the love I share for music and nature, yet members of my family call that an “embarrassing habit”, yet I still enjoy doing it and I will not stop for such criticism.” He smiled and turned to look at the men, they seemed ready to continue.
"Sire, look to the horizon!"
Siegfried’s eyes quickly looked in the direction Sain pointed at and spotted Beon warning them of incoming danger. He noticed several birds and ravens were screeching and flying away from the danger as fast as their wings would let them. Now he knew why he had that odd feeling. He turned to look at the men, he could leave two guards with them and take the other three, and however the Captain was rather hasty. He quickly commanded the caravans to hide by the crevices to the left and await their return. He had commanded the Captain to fight if the enemy found them but to do their outmost best not to harm anyone, and especially to preserve the supplies, the people could not starve even if the rebels were behind all this. His eyes narrowed for a moment, what could be the best course of action? They would surely be outnumbered even if they attacked by surprise.
"They are being over run, shall we lend assistance. A small band to move forward, whilst we leave some to protect the supply train."
He looked at Sain for a moment, yes; surprise was their only ally here. He selected few men as others moved the wagons into the crevices and Siegfried commanded the Captain, “Give this man a horse, he is coming with me.” The Captain frowned at Siegfried’s command but soon gave Sain a horse. He then nodded at Sain’s words and said, “We must get there before dusk, then we can plan our attack, until we know how many of them there are, we will not know our probabilities.” He then kicked “Noble Strength” with his heels and his horse broke into a gallops, Siegfried made sure to look behind him to ensure Sain and the other men were riding behind him. Complying with the command to move the wagons to near by crevice, it was a sound decision to make. If anyone came looking for them, it would be difficult to see the wagons where they had been left. Siegfried looked troubled, and instantly knew what was on his mind. If they moved to lend help to the defenders of the village, how would their small numbers make a difference. Looking to the horizon as he thought, he was astonished to hear Siegfired command the Captain to lend him a horse. Sain would ride into battle with Sieg, he nodded his head in compliance.
Mounting the dark brown beast with ease, he quickly adjusted him self in his seat. The Captain had a look of distain, to see someone he had thought so lowly of. Being asked to ride beside a lord, a high lord at that. This was not a new feeling to him, Sain had rode many times into battle along side high lords an people of influence. Sain felt the rush of adrenaline flow through his veins, as he looked to Seig as he spoke.
"We must get there before dusk, then we can plan our attack, until we know how many of them there are, we will not know our probabilities.”
Sain agreed they needed more knowledge of the situation, to charge blind into battle would be a fools mistake. Following beside Sieg, he rode his horse like a master. His riding form impecable, staying in a position to allow maximum speed. The old feelings rushing back to him, like waves of an overpowering sea. Sain felt as though he was a Lord once again, commanding the armies of his father and nation. Although it reminded him of his last failures, he pushed those thoughts back into the recesses of his mind. He was now Sain the Sellsword, and he would not fail again.
They were making good time, the smoke in the sky was beginning to thicken. The sun was slowly setting, he hoped they would still be blessed with enough light to view the situation of the town. Sain was formulating a plan as they rode, all seemed hopless. One plan had promise, although it would be risky. It was a risk that must be taken, he would not let innocents be slayed not again.

[ o u t o f t h e m i s t s o f h I s t o r y h e ‘ l l c o m e a g a I n]Always A Hero Comes Home[ a n d h e w I l l c o m e b a c k o n a c r i m s o n t i d e ] The moment they arrived at the crevices right next to the town, Siegfried commanded everyone to halt and only beckoned Sain and other two men to climb the hills with him so they could plan their next move. Many would criticize the young noble for trusting strangers, but a true warrior had to make use of the resources available at times of great urgency. This was such moment, and Sain was a powerful ally until proven otherwise, he could not follow the rigid judgment of narrow-minded men, Siegfried constantly fought against that himself to begin with. As he climbed he did his very best not to slip or cause any rocks to fall upon their men, besides he did not wish to attract attention, the enemy could not know they were planning to ambush them. Once they arrived at the very edge Siegfried took a deep breath, however he remained on his knees so he could look at everything in detail without being seen. He did not turn to look at Sain but simply said, “Before we come into any conclusions, what plans have you devised, what do you reckon of this situation?”
Just as he suspected there seemed to be plenty of men to cause a powerful raid, who could be behind all this? He looked at their numbers and tried to make a mental calculation, there seemed to be at least a hounded men, to say the least, surely there were others hiding in the woods or attacking smaller houses or the castle of the lord who requested these supplies to be delivered to. “I count at least one hundred heads down there Sain, I believe only a surprise attack might grant us the upper hand, but it has to be carefully devised and we have not got enough time.”
He smirked as a plan came into play.
“I believe they were trying to steal the goods you were on your way to deliver, am I correct?” He placed a hand on his chin for a moment as he added with ironic cordiality, “Well then, my friend, why don’t we take over those two caravans that are about to be taken to their hideout…” he then pointed to a nearby cave and added, “we leave all supplies there and then give them what they had come for since the beginning.” The two men who accompanied them were slightly confused at such words, but Lord Siegfried was determined, if they could hide enough men in those caravans to surprise them and distract the men from causing any more harm to the nobles and villagers of these areas, then they could do a counterattack and make them lose confidence in their abilities.
Once those men lose the certainty of winning that battle, although few, Siegfried and Sain could threaten with the arrival of more patrols to finish them off, then perchance they will believe them, otherwise, they will have to drag the enemy to rivers and lakes and hope they will last long enough for reinforcements to arrive. He had already asked one of the men to ride back and call for aid, but who knew when the men would arrive, or if they would be sent at all, hopefully Lord Siegfried’s command would be enough for the men to come to answer their call to arms.
Siegfried did not need to explain his plan in detail to Sain, for some reason he sensed the man was truly cunning and intelligent and knew exactly what the young noble had in mind.
Yet time was of the essence, they had to act quickly. “Sain, you will ambush the caravan of the east and take some men with you, I will take over the west, I will meet you at the cave, where all supplies will be hidden by our men while we encounter the enemy by surprise, hidden within those caravans.
