Utterly helpless was indeed how she felt at that moment when Jonos sprang towards Siegfried. Never had she dreamed that her peaceful venture to Massalia would end up this way. Why had she come? "Why did I come?" she said out loud, but far too softly for any to hear. She eventually managed to force herself out of shock long enough to move towards one of the trees that grew along the edge of the rough path. She clutched at the rough bark in an attempt to steady herself.
She processed the sound of metal striking metal, and she assumed that the fight had truly begun. She glanced towards the direction of the sound but she could not hold her eyes on the scene for more than a few seconds before looking away. What was she to do? There was no way she could help, she knew that without a doubt. She was the burden, hated by one and protected by the other. She couldn't let him die. Not for her.
Years she had spent, wondering why being born into the royal family separated her from the rest of Etrias. She had tried so hard to be fair and kind towards her people but her effort alone was obviously not enough. She felt anger, suddenly. Rebels. What was their objective? At that moment she knew exactly what it was. They intended to take her and whether they would or wouldn't was unclear. She found that she didn't care quite as much as she thought she would about that.
But what did they want in the end. Would the leader himself take the throne? How was that different from what there was now? She simply had no idea. Unless of course they had decided to uproot the royal family altogether and allow people to govern themselves. She wondered what that would be like...
A vicious clang forced her from her fear induced mental ramblings. This was worse than waiting nervously for her brothers to arrive back from battle. If Siegfried was defeated, the pain would be immediate, like being struck with a bar of metal rather than easing in to the pain. "Stop!" she managed to shout, though her voice sounded so small with the sound of the fight ever-present. "Please!" She moved forward a few paces. She knew he wouldn't listen, but she had to try.

[ o u t o f t h e m i s t s o f h I s t o r y h e ‘ l l c o m e a g a I n]Always A Hero Comes Home[ a n d h e w I l l c o m e b a c k o n a c r i m s o n t i d e ] He could understand how the princess was feeling: helpless, guilty, a burden, even angry. Who wanted to see a person die to protect them? Yet Siegfried would not die now, he would make sure of that, Joscelin would not hesitate to draw a sword to protect his young sister, as a dear friend of his, he would use his polearm to defend this innocent girl that was her brother’s most precious gem!
Siegfried was stubborn and proud, but that never got on the way of his fighting, so nothing this man told him would offend him, no, he would only talk to irritate his foe and divert his attention form the princess, while he sought to be the centre of attention to allow her the possibility of escaping this situation unharmed. However, time was running out and he had to concentrate and consider a plan that could make the men forget about her being there, but what could he do? – His eyes looked into the eyes of his foe; perhaps a little battle was what she needed to run away…
But… could he take all these men? Would he manage to keep them entertained at the same time? Perhaps by engaging their leader the men became less tense and concentrated mainly on what happened before them. Possibly… that would work, yes, maybe.
The young noble was as certain of his own abilities as this man he confronted before the moonlight. He did not feel afraid, not at all. His senses were now fully concentrated on what this man said, did, even where his eyes moved. When Siegfried engaged a person in battle, then he turned into a powerful enemy, his eyes did not betray his movements and though they concentrated on the person in front of him, he was also aware of his surroundings in case any of Jonos’ men attacked him as well. This was not the first time he faced a group of men and their leader, this young noble had seen much as well, he was no inexpert at war and raids and he had gained much intelligence on the tactics of such environments when facing one or more men. The threats or smirks in this man would not discourage Siegfried nor change his mood.
Whenever engaged in a fight his mind, body, his whole being concentrated on the encounter like a tiger would when fighting for its pride. His blue eyes burned with the ideals that had been slowly placed in his heart form a very tender age by his mother, the peasants he had met in the past who became his friends and whoever marked him throughout the years. Maybe that was what made him different to the rest of nobles, perhaps.
The man’s eyes darkened with Siegfried’s reply, did he truly believe he could not protect the princess and his people overall? His family was granted the gift to protect certain lands corresponding to the kingdom of Etrias and Siegfried obeyed that task willingly and grateful that he was entrusted with such. He could never be a noble who sat around his castle and never did anything for others, no, Siegfried was in many ways similar to Beon, his falcon, he flew free to do as expected of him and to aid those who looked up to him as a role model. Yes, that was what Sain had told him once, ever since he had met that man something in Siegfried changed, he realized that he could do far more for others than he was told. By setting the correct example and making use of his energies, influence and power to make the lives of his people more enjoyable. Once this battle was over he would have to talk with his family, surely Dalia would do anything to help, but the rest? – He raised an eyebrow.
The man pretended not to hear his words, it did not matter though, just because he was an expert at hiding any emotions and locking his heart in an iceberg, that did not mean he could not understand what he was telling him. Both had their methods and ways to attack one another, this would be a deadly battle worthy of remembering in the near future.
Jonos was a worthy opponent.
He skillfully parried Siegfried’s counterattack but did not consider that the strength of the impact would injure his arm for a while. Even if they kept on fighting he would feel that injury for a couple of days he was sure. Siegfried would give him reasons to never forget him. He could see the anger in his eyes, yes, - this “boy” would be no easy foe.
He quickly looked around; Jonos men were still confused and unsure as to what to do. Some still had to get up form the fall; others were trying to control their horses. If he could get some more time to device a plan then he would be grateful to the fates.
Beon, his falcon, soon reached the meeting point of the defenders, upon noticing Siegfried was not with them one of them took in the bird’s message and turning to look at the men he said, “I am sure he is engaged in a battle elsewhere, let us begin with the plan, he will catch up when he can! We must resist until he does!” The men cheered and soon charged on, surprising the rebels with the speed of their horses and the war cries that echoed through the town and mountains. Siegfried smiled cunningly, they had done well…
"I am Jonos Frey, your reaper third son of the Maulesel family. Siegfried!"
Siegfried’s eyes narrowed at the presumption of Jonos being the personification of his death. In any way he preferred to die in the middle of a battle protecting those he held dear instead of giving in to the rebels and hiding in cowardice. Yet, how did the man know his name? Probably he was told, but how, did he know he would be in the city planning to defend it from his raid? He was truly a cunning man; he knew his books well. “So be it Jonos the reaper!” He was not afraid and he would gladly meet his doom here, but he would ensure not to fail before that came to be…
Siegfried jumped backward as Jonos twirled his blade, and he swung his polearm in front of him and then at Jonos’ next attack to his left he turned to his right, changing hands on his polearm, that change meant he left his weapon floating for the split second it took him to turn and avoid the blade. As a result Jonos’ blade hit the midsection of Siegfried’s polearm, upon the intensity of it Jonos’ blade slid on the polearm and moved close to one of Siegfried’s hands, he quickly slided it downward and quickly kicked Jonos toward the ribcage. It was then Siegfried’s leg lost somewhat the balance and he leaned backward almost about to fall.
It was then he realized Jonos was aiming toward his mid-section. He quickly stepped to a side and used his polearm to force Jonos’ weapon to the ground. He then moved a hand to punch him hard on the face and then turned with full speed and strength behind him to hit him on the back and force him to fall.
”Stop! Please!”
Siegfried noticed the pain in her eyes, yet his were already concentrate don the battle, on becoming a tiger protecting its cubs. He only hoped his eyes could give her hope, to not fade into despair and to collaborate with him should things get bad and running become her only means of survival. He noticed she moved some steps forward and he shouted, “No highness! Step back! These men won’t show mercy, they will not fall for the words of a kindled heart, they will not stop until they do as planned; but I will stop them.” His eyes lay upon Jonos’ with rage. How could these men be so cruel? Not only were they attacking innocent people, they also fought him for no reason and tortured the princess into believing all this to be her fault? Jonos was impresssed that the villagers had not given up yet, and at the same time was annoyed that they were more resiliant than he thought. His force was not meant to crush the opposition, simply keep them occupied. Jonos had still thought the villagers would not so trouble-some, his men would hold but he didnt not expect them to hold forever. His force was not large, it was more of a tactical unit. He knew his men had the skills they needed to survive, when it was time they would make the right decision.
The raiders he'd brought with him, werd some of his best. Still they fell for such a simple attack, if they lived through tonight these men would have strict training ahead of them. The rebel force was still in need of much training, he had few soldiers, and plenty of villagers. Jonos was still in the processes of disciplining those under his command, he would not be made a fool of by their lack of fighting skills.
Siegfried was as skilled with his polearm as Jonos was with his sword. Their fight had only started, and Siegfried had blocked his attacks so far. Jonos was enjoying the challenge, it brought back memories of old. The many battles he tore down the enemies of the crown, now the tables had turned he was the new enemy. It is strange how life takes its turns, how the way certain events can change a mans views. This war was only in its beginning stages, soon all their plans would be unveiled and the realm would shake from the shock.
Jonos was attempting to place prescious strikes, yet Siegfried seemed to dodge them effortlessly. His movements were free like a bird, as natural as a swift fishin water. Jonos was not done yet, his blade had almost made contact with Siegs hand. The quick sliding of his hand had saved it from the blades bite. Jonos noticed the shift in Siegs weight as his foot lunged toward him, pushing him self back quick enough to narrowly dodge the kick. If Sieg had not lost his balance the kick would of conected, but losing his left his kick comming.up short. Thats when Jonos found his opening, he continued his strikes.
His strike fell short as Siegs attack did, Jonos attack was deflected towards the ground. Letting go of the hilt of the saber, as the punch came for him. "GOT YOU!" he yelled in his head, as the punch came. Jonos extened his arm to block, but instead he grabbed for Siegs wrist. Pulling him forward, sending a hard left hook toward Siegs right side of his head. If he connected he'd release his grip and send a wide right hook, it would leave him open for a short time but he wanted to try to end this quickly.
”Stop! Please!”
The cries of the helpless, he knew those well. They haunted him at times, his nights were always filled with nightmares. The screams of the helpless, the dying, the brave, the innocent. This was war, all these were merely another chorus in the orchestra of battle. She should feel helpless, there was nothing she could do. Not now, nor has she ever been able to do much of anything. A princess to a king was just a diplomatic tool, as are many ladys of nobility.
“No highness! Step back! These men won’t show mercy, they will not fall for the words of a kindled heart, they will not stop until they do as planned; but I will stop them.”
Jonos grinned as he locked eyes with Sieg, " Do not lie to her, come now noble Siegfried. It is not becomming of a noble to lie to royalty." He gave a cocky grin along with that statement, he wanted under his skin make him loose his concentration. " My young princess, come with us and the people of this village and this noblist of men will be spared. You should be used to being a tool of men with position, are you not? You'r parents use you for diplomatic power, marry you off to a noble in exchange for an eased mind. Prehaps for another needed ally, another voice in the court on their side. The men of noble houses only see you a way to get closer to the royal family. A tool to be used to gain more power, influence, money, a higher station. You are simply a pawn in the hands of highborn men, this can all change if we have our way. Do you not wish for change your highness? To marry who you wish, without anothers say?" His words were true in many cases, he knew this would shock her. It was what he wanted, to distract her and aggrovate Sieg. Jonos had a way of getting under peoples skin, he once could inspire. Now he used his words to a different advantage, and he was starting now.
